Brushstroke
The most important aspect of any painting is brushstroke. There are no shortcuts to becoming proficient with your brush, the only way to really get to terms with what you can do with a brush is to focus on each stroke that you are laying down and constantly look at the general as you do this. The key to understanding your brushwork is to constantly look at how they affect the painting, how they look and when you you recognize the ones that you like, pop them in your tool box and then? practice.
