HIGH BEAM DREAMS
2021 workshops are being held at High Beam Dreams , Lower Gibsons and classes will follow COVID-19 safe procedures that exceed provincial and health guidelines.
High Beam Dreams is a beautifully restored church that has transformed into an events venue hosting indoor or outdoor events.
WHERE?
350 GLASSFORD RD
The 2000 sq. ft. structure features soaring ceilings, ample natural light, and significant cross ventilation. The summer art workshops will be limited to 14 students, allowing 6-foot social distancing to be maintained in full classes. Outside there is a comfortable gathering spot and a brush and container cleaning sink.
IS THIS FOR YOU?
YES
This workshop is designed to meet the needs of a beginner with basic skills to intermediate painters. At this level, you have understood the basics of colour, composition, drawing, perspective and your medium.
You are probably feeling ambitious but frustrated that your paintings are not more alive and a little bit of pareidolia is what you need.
The next step is to understand your brush, to recognize and interpret the marks that it makes so that you can respond to the gifts that the unexpected but intentional strokes give to you.
Oil paint is prefered and you have the option of renting materials but acrylics are also OK. I specialize in oil and have limited knowledge of acrylics, so please bear this in mind.
WHY?
We have 4 full days. 9 am – 4 pm and an hour of lunch to rejuvenate.
The ultimate goal is to walk away with a completed urban landscape and we will take a step by step approach, as we have the time.
Initially, we will play with some brushwork independent of a painting, construct a clear approach to the concept for the piece, manipulate the paint with spontaneity, and finally, when your confidence is high, we will attack the urban subject matter.
The insights that you will gain during our 4 days, will be easily transferable to other subjects and other mediums.
